I have a season ticket to Paget Rangers, a non league football club in Sutton Coldfield, north Birmingham. For £50 I get nearly 20 games and since I have friends at the club, I feel the strong sense of community that the club has
On the 25th of January Paget welcomed Kirby Muxloe, a team from Leicestershire to Sutton Coldfield. Both teams are uncomfortably close to the relegation zone in the Midlands football League Division 1, so the game was vital for both teams.
The game itself was a bit scrappy, the ball often bypassing midfield. Both teams had plenty of high quality chances, but lacked composure in front of goal. It looked at times, that both teams were going for kicking for Rugby try conversion kicks rather than a football goal.
In one controversial moment, a Paget player had knocked the ball past the Kirby goalkeeper outside of the Kirby area, and the Kirby area cleared him out with a ferocious “tackle”. The keeper got a yellow, presumably because there was a defender on the cover, but Paget thought that it was a straight red, because the keeper put the Paget attacker in danger. In fact, the Paget attacker had to go off injured.
The match ended 0-0, which was a decent point for both teams. The lack of composure in front of goals indicates a lack of confidence from both sides. Paget play Cadbury Athletic next week and will want to avenge a 5-0 loss to Cadbury recently.
Up the bears!
